Texas State University Visits Edcouch-Elsa High School
Sebastian Dougherty a representative from Texas State University in San Marcos visited the Edcouch-Elsa campus on December 5, 2006. Dougherty met with 21 students who may potentially attend the University. In the crowd were students ranging from sophomores to seniors. “It is important for students to start thinking about what college they want to attend the minute they walk into the high school, this way they understand what are the requirements for admission so they can start setting realistic goals for themselves,” said Mr Joaquin Jasso.
Present in the meeting were all of Mr. Salazar’s sophomore Avid students. “As part of my class students must attend various college presentations then as an assignment must submit an application to me as a simulation of the college admission process,” said Mr. Lauro Salazar.
After the meeting many seniors stayed in the Go Center with Financial Aid Advisor, Mr. Joaquin Jasso to complete applications to Texas State University. Others who have already applied discussed financial aid and picked up scholarship applications.
